A program presented on August 23, 2025 by the Mattress Factory and Pittsburgh Sound + Image for Summer School: State of the Sky, an interdisciplinary, arts-centered education program organized by artists Luke Stettner and Calista Lyon within the State of the Sky exhibition. Atmospheres + Auras, curated by Benny Shaffer, features five films that will immerse viewers in sensory environments shaped by elemental forces and industrial traces. Looking skyward, the films explore how perception is framed by atmospheric conditions, historical memory, and shifting relations between industry, environment, and power. By weaving together abstraction, animation, and documentary approaches, the program asks how the sky might be understood as a resonant field of materials, relations, and transformations.
