Benny Shaffer is an anthropologist, curator, and filmmaker. His film and video works have been exhibited in Asia, Europe, and North America. His writings and translations have appeared in Art Asia Pacific, Art Review Asia, Flash Art, Journal of Chinese Cinemas, LEAP, Ran Dian, Yishu: Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art, and other publications. He holds a PhD in Social Anthropology and Critical Media Practice from Harvard University, where he was a Film Study Center fellow, a member of the Sensory Ethnography Lab, and a curator of the Emergent Visions film series. He served as the co-director of Revolutions Per Minute Festival in Boston and is currently a board member of Pittsburgh Sound + Image. He is based in Pittsburgh, PA.
